march was good! i feel like we got a lot done and had fun as well. between getting over colds, getting new colds, and trying to not work to much to have a short temper with the kids we have found a decent schedule to work with. it has been nice to not have a lot planned this month so we can just find our normal. but we still kept plenty busy. we have discovered how cool it is to make shape pancakes. justin used my cookie cutters one morning to make cool pancakes and the kids loved it. we went and saw beauty and the beast. it was so good! i loved it. i wasnt super thrilled with belles singing, but i loved how she portrayed the character. that was great. during the credits there was a little girl dressed up as belle who went up and danced in front of the screen. it was super cute. thats going to be rylie some day.
i think i left off the last blog with us all in the middle of really bad colds, rex was teething, it was a really rough week or 2. there was one day where i was just having a miserable day. i was upset, i hadnt slept, the kids were driving me crazy, i was going insane. justin came home to help give me a break. he got home, changed quickly and came to grab rex from my lap. ryker was having his downtime on the couch. he was curious why dad was telling mom to go, get out. he said mom needs a break. ryker quickly runs into the kitchen and fills me a cup of water. he hands it to be and says here you go mom! here is water for your water break. i just cried from laughter and overwhelming emotion of who knows what. he was getting on all my nerves but does the sweetest things sometimes. it was hilarious and super sweet. now i have noticed a few times when we say we need a break he goes and gets water. i think he just assumes it means water break? oh well. i will take it. water is good for you anyway.
ryker is also really good at using dad/mom as an excuse. he has started telling me "but dad said i could have .......!" no... dads at work. he didnt tell you anything. but dad said i could play with.... no. again dad isnt here... he has done it to justin to. its kind of hilarious. im not sure where he learned it. but in the end it comes to well, im mom and im telling you this now. sorry love.
we have recently been really into the movie moana. its a cute one, and rylie loves to watch it a lot. ryker enjoys it too, but not the same as rylie. but he still quotes it all the time. (thats my boy!) one day i was asking him if he would go potty please. he kept saying no. i told him we dont get a sticker or prize if we are wet, we better go potty. no. ryker, if we are wet then we cant wear our lightning mcqueen jammies. then in a perfect quote from the movie he looks at me with shock and says i did not see that coming.... i just broke down and laughed. it was so perfectly timed and well placed. i couldnt have been more proud.
during one downtime ryker was watching petes dragon with justin. it gets to the part where they capture the dragon. he looks up at justin and says oh no! we need to make him a dr apt with a dragon dr and then he will be all better! oh the simple mind of a child. i love it. we have also recently had some fun going through youtube and doing disney song trivia. mostly its for justin and i, but the kids love the songs, and have even picked out a few before they reveal the answers. the song was one from herculese and we were singing along for the 15 seconds of the song. it showed a pic of herculese and meg kissing at the end of the movie. ryker looks and says hey! its mom and dad! bahahahahha. well we are not shy about kissing in front of our kids. they will probably be embarassed about that later. oh well! but it made me smile.
one of my favorite parts of the day is in the morning. the kids play in their room till about 8am. but around that time they get restless and ryker knocks on his door (from the inside) and says mom! its ryker, can you please come open the door! its adorable. and he is so polite! sometimes he sticks his fingers out the bottom and loved when i try to grab them from under the door. hes a goober, but hes my goober and i love him so much.
my last story about ryker is about a fly. im pretty sure i mentioned this before, but in case not, ryker is terrified of flys. i have no idea why, but he freaks out. he loves fly swatters because they are a weapon against this problem. we deal with it and luckily he is easy to console. as long as we can catch the fly. well one of our bedtime books is the old woman who swallowed a fly. well the other day he saw a fly through the window. (it was on the outside so no danger.) but he kept trying to get it. after a few attempts he turns to me and says mom! we have to get a spider to catch the fly! it took me a few seconds to understand what he was meaning. but in the book the old woman swallows a spider to catch the fly. it was so great. i love that he is correlating stories and songs and the things he learns into his every day life. it makes me so happy and im glad he is learning so much.
rylie is also doing great. she is my little spit fire. she has recently gotten into the "mine" phase. everything is hers and she wants it. even though she didnt care about it till ryker/mom/dad/even rex was touching it. ugh. its been a struggle but she is slowly getting better. just a phase. she is super independant. she wants to do everything herself. open everything, get undressed, get dressed, eat, brush teeth, brush hair. it all has to be at least attempted on her own first. then mom can help but only after she asks. if she hasnt asked for my help then im not allowed to do anything. this works a lot better when we are not in a hurry. but im glad she is learning!
she loves to feed rex. she also loves to eat his leftovers. i mean this is not surprising she is essentially a garbage disposal. she eats anything and everything. she likes to lick the lids of rex' baby food. i mean it doesnt smell great.... i didnt know why she was eating it and thought for a while maybe she wanted to be the baby again? but with her independance in full swing i figure its more hey hes eating i want some too. you know? i have to get after her all the time to not eat the cheerios/puffs off his try. those are rex' snacks. those are all he can eat on his own dont eat them off his plate!
to add to her eating habits she likes to have it all at once. we always tell her to take small bites and to swallow before putting the next bite in her mouth. all thats fine. sometimes she has something in each hand, but something falls. instead of putting things down to pick it up, no she just goes at it with her face. she has food in each hand, and is eating off the plate with her face. its a site to see and its hilarious.
she has always been my interesting sleeper. she sleeps fine through the night, but her postions are hilarious. her favorite is sleeping with her feet on her pillow. i mean i like it better when my head is supported, but thats just me. i have always gone in to check on the kids before we go to bed, but i do so a little more now because i find rylie in the strangest places. most often i find her on the floor with her feet either under her bed or rykers bed. she uses the bed like a blanket, but cant scoot under farther than her bum. so i walk in and in the dark have to figure out where half of rylie is so that i can put her back in bed. its funny. the other night i went to help rex and feed him at like 1230 in the night. their light was on? odd... i go in and ryker is still sleeping in bed, but rylie is just chillin on her bed wide awake. i try to explain its still bedtime we have to keep the light off. i put her back to bed and then feed rex. luckily she fell back asleep. when i was done the light was not back on.
she has also sometimes fallen asleep in front of the door. which makes it harder to put her back in her bed. i basically have to slowly open the door and nudge her enough to wake up and move so i can get in the room. she is a silly one!
rex is doing awesome. he is really perfecting the scooting and we have officially brought up the baby gate so he doesnt fall down the stairs. we try to work on crawling, but he just wants to scoot because he knows how to do that so its fast. crawling is faster bud i promise! though do i want him moving faster? haha. he still gets underfoot pretty quick. he likes to go on adventures down the hall exploring all the doors.
he has officially weened himself. with his cold and teething he was having a lot of trouble nursing but would take a bottle. im at a point where i dont have a good let down unless im nursing, so i cant pump as much to give him in a bottle. it just worked out, but now he is on formula. its working well. luckily he sleeps pretty well. only waking up once (occasionally twice) at night so its really not that bad to get up and fix him a bottle. also i dont really have to put him to bed. for naps and at night once he is done with his bottle, i can just put him back in the crib and he puts himself to sleep. its been really helpful.
he is all smiles and loves that he can feed himself a little. he loves peas and cheerios. its been nice to have him eating on his own while i finish getting dinner or whatever meal ready then i can sit down and feed him his food, boy loves to eat!
our renovation is doing good. we cleaned up the downstairs bathroom and checked plumbing. we were a little worried about the drain line for the shower but we checked it and it will be fine. though emptying the line after we tested it was exciting. i was showered with (clean) water. splashed right in my face. that was unexpected and hilarious. especially after justin promised to go slow so it wouldnt spray all over us. we are done waterproofing the shower! we need to finish the floor and then that section is ready for tile! the walls are all ready for primer and texture. we are getting there! we started this month with the walls open and putting in insulation. we have made some big steps!
