Justins parents came to visit the last week of june. Justin took the week off and with his dads help they started residing our house. the sat before we had the elders quorum come over and help us rip off the siding. surprisingly it only took like 3 hrs. it was quick! i was quite surprised. and not much needed to be fixed, or removed. they buffalo board underneath was in really decent shape. but our house was naked for a few days which had me worried. Justins parents came sunday afternoon and we got to play and hang out a little before the real work began.
remember how we do a lot of projects? we are big DIYers. and thats not a bad thing, but we constantly underestimate the prep work involved in such tasks. remember the bathroom we are remodeling? still in progress and we definitely thought it would only be like a 3 month project. going on 7 months woohoo! granted we did take some breaks with that one. plus the siding is also a break from that project. we couldnt pass up the help. anyways, so we thought it would be quick. house wrap up on monday, taping/flashing/general sealing up of the house tues, then on wed they could side! and it would go so quick it could potentially be done in like a day! boy were we in for a surprise. ya it all took a lot longer than that. We even had the bishops son Noah come and help in the afternoons. with 3 people actively working it still took forever. the previous owner was under the impression that anything could be fixed with caulking. then of course they painted right over it. gross. Justin told me that its the 80/20 rule of a project. 80% is the prep work and 20% is what you see. But the 20% only looks as good as the 80% prep you did. granted i dont have a great perspective. i was inside tending to kids and making sure they were out of the way so i didnt know why each part took so long because i was not in the midst of the project. but it was in the 80s+ all week so the guys were hot and tired and definitely worked hard.
Needless to say we did not finish the project in the week. but by the end Justin put his foot down and said we needed to take some time to enjoy the grandparents here and take a break. so they worked half a day friday and half a day sat. but by the time they went home, all the prep and trimming was done so the easy part was left to Justin. with it being vinyl siding it is light weight and justin can put it up himself, so its not a huge loss to have dad gone. My mother in law helped quite a bit outside and then was so great to help me with the kids inside. it might not always seem like a lot to do, but any fellow mom can understand its a huge help to have backup or a support in case things go crazy real fast. Cynda if you are reading I hope you know you were a huge help to me in the house and i so greatly appreciate it. I know you felt like you wernt doing anything, but having you around was a blessing for me. Thank you!
in the 2 weeks since we have gotten most of the siding up. we have done a solid 2/3. most of the front, just missing the peak above the garage, and the second story on the far right wall, and the whole back needs to be done. but its a work in progress! and looks so much better than the yellow we had. so there was a lot of clean up there. and we will continue to do more after we get the house covered. fix what the other caulky owners did.
Kids are doing great. Ryker is so big now. he can reach the faucet in the bathroom without using a stool and i just cant bring myself to admit he is that big. i sure love that boy. he says the funniest things. he comes and brings me the mail sometimes when justin gets home and he goes out to meet him and runs in yelling happy mothers day! everytime. mothers day and mail time are very similar apparently. haha.
we got some fish again. hopefully we can take better care of the tank. so far its looking better and no fish have died. hurray! we kept them in the bag to acclimate them for an hour, but it was bed time so we put the kids to bed. the next morning ryker runs into our room and says you put the fish in the tank? thats incredible! i love them! i had to roll over and laugh. his vocabulary is super great.
for some reason he is obsessed with his poop. he has to show me (or i have to come in and look) every time he goes. he shows me his mommy and baby poops. thank you son. i really wanted to know and see that. now flush it away and wash your hands. i dont know if this is an improvement from him waving and saying goodbye to his poop as he flushes. we shall see... at least its still in the potty right? the other day he asked me to come see, so i came in and he said look at the baby poop! isnt he cute? gross, but hilarious. i laughed and said sure, but still made him flush it.
Justin took ryker out on his first father son outing and they went and saw cars 3 at the movie theater. ryker loved it. he loved the popcorn, the big screen, alone time with dad. it was great. and he loves cars so much it was perfect. in fact at church a week or 2 later, he was asked if he knew what fast sunday was? He confidently replied race car! well yes, racecars are fast, but not quite the answer we are looking for. haha. i was passing by in the hall and heard that. it was beautiful. he still tells me everyday he wants to be a racecar driver. maybe someday bud.
justin took ryker on a father son campout the ward had. he loved it and stayed up way too late. he serenaded everyone the next morning by singing rain rain go away. and they all loved it. haha. so glad he is getting old enough to do these fun things.
Rylie is doing great. she is rocking this whole potty training thing. she is out of diapers completely, even at night. i cant tell you how much i love only changing 1 butt all day long. and its only a little one. granted he also tries to run away every time, but thats its own worry. he has only peed on the furniture once. rylie loves anything princess or animal. she still loves to carry around all her stuffed animals. she loves all the princess movies. we were watching the new beauty and the beast one day and she looks in awe as belle is getting ready for the dance and she says mom look! she is a princess! well rylie, you are my pretty princess so dream big!
she has gotten into this habit that at bedtime she must use the bathroom a minimum of 5 times. we put her to bed and tuck her in and she comes out saying she needs to go! well you cant say no to a potty training toddler. but seriously an hour and a half at least later she finally falls asleep. in fact as i am writing this she has come out 3 times and thats why i am inside and not helping justin outside. im waiting for her to fall asleep then i can go out and help with the evening siding.
rex is so darn cute. he is so smiley and i just love it. he has recently learned to get his foot stuck in the bars of his crib. not that he is really stuck, just stuck for him because he turned a way that he cant get it out. only a few times has he woke up screaming because he cant roll over anymore. sorry buddy. but he is standing and walking around holding onto things a ton. he is loving the movement. he is a master crawler now. he has balanced a few times on his own, but i think we still have a little time before he is really walking. but im sure once he is there he will take off like there is no tomorrow. he wants to play with ryker and rylie so bad. crawling has helped, but he wants to run. we gave him his first haircut! my family was really sad about it, but it was getting a little mullet ish, and its been so hot that it was just making him sweat all the time, so his curly locks had to go. dont worry, he is still cute.
other than that its more of the same. justin still enjoying work. they buddy that he helped get hired out here was asked to relocate back to california. we are sad to see some good friends leave, but will definitely still keep in contact. we keep plugging away at our projects. sometime last week the sister in law of the previous owner stopped by. she was giving us a key that she had for when she would come watch the house. it was really nice of her to give it back! (even though we changed the locks and door knobs when we moved in) she was impressed with our siding job and admitted she didnt like the yellow either. haha. thats what everyone seems to say. no one liked the yellow. followed by everyones amazment that we are doing it ourselves. she asked if we have done this before. no, not really. how did you learn? online research for a while. plus justin being an engineer he has quite the knack for home projects. his brain just works that way. i mean its a great plus for me. i love how handy he is. and he works like a professional, so i dont mind at all. i married a great one!
my baby boy loving some blueberries! or devouring a smurf, cant be sure
i know its dark but the garage is done!
sharing this fun car that we got from our neighbors. they are so sweet! we love them. they are our neighbor grandparents. ryker calls then neighbor grandma and neighbor grandpa.
justin got allergy tested. good news he is allergic to exactly what we thought! massively to grasses. definitely to trees, and dogs and cats. allergy shots soon to come.
justin using our house as scratch paper while he whips out some trig to figure out the angle of the slant to make cutting pieces easier. oh to be an engineer.
the kids watching dad leave for work. just to make sure he sees their sad faces so he can come back.
this is a pic called walking on faith by ben mcpherson. my sis in law tricia has it and i love it so much. i have been looking for it everywhere but couldnt find it. so i finally decided to make a version of it myself. i love how it turned out! kind of a stained glass look, but i am so happy it worked out.

i walked in one morning and rex had hung his bedtime lovey.
one of justins fathers day gifts/ also a gift for me because im hanging it on our wall. its still missing his handprint by the way
because im a mom and i never get to pee in peace, rex just had to join me but i didnt want him reeking havoc in all the places i coultn reach while doing my business. so i stuck him in the bathrub. it worked really well! i wish my other 2 kids would stay if i put them in the bathtub to keep them out of trouble.
justin working on his welding table
this was my project the week before the inlaws came. some cubbies for out kitchenette downstairs, it was something i did on my own with very minimal help from justin. it is not as precise as he would have done, but im pretty proud of how it turned out. i think i did a good job.
rylie really wanted to take a pic while we were facetimeing alicia for her birthday.
i know he is cute, but he doesnt ever let me go to sunday school or relief society!
happy fathers day!
this was our fun dessert. little beach cups to remember our vacation just a short time ago. even with screaming kids in the background.
it turned out great!
our new fishies! starburst (the yellow at the top) blue ( in the middle kinda hidden by the glare of my hand) big momma (yellow and black by the alligator skull) and a snail (bottom left) named turbo. blue is a little vicious and a little nippy so sometimes she goes in time out. other than that its fun to have. the kids love it.

it was so hot! especially on the roof. poor noah was up there for a while. grandpa gave him a box to sit on and he turned it into a shelter to get any sort of relief from the sun.
